The Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications. The Foundation is honored to facilitate a number of memorial scholarships representing cherished members of the Pirate community. One such scholarship is the Hannah Grace Venable Memorial Scholarship. Hannah Grace Venable was a “work of heart” who gave life everywhere she went. She loved spending time with her friends and family and her therapy horse, Hank. She was also a champion in the Special Olympics and was cherished by all who came in contact with her. Hannah gave life all the way to her last days on earth as an organ donor, and her spirit will live on. The Hannah Grace Venable Memorial Scholarship was established in the Fall of 2015 for Lubbock-Cooper High School seniors who will be attending a college, university, or technical/trade school who wish to pursue a career oriented toward assisting children with special needs. To apply for the Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation Scholarship and/or the Hannah Grace Venable Memorial Scholarship, visit https://forms.gle/rgUtPszXXbjGuByq9 today!

Nathan Mullins and Ella Shank, members of the Lubbock-Cooper High School Band, will perform with the Texas All-State Band in San Antonio on Saturday, February 12 at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. Nate and Ella were chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region, and Area levels. High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through auditions to qualify at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. 1,875 students are selected through a process that began with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 ensembles. Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the Texas All-State competition. This competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 33 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group. Only the top 2.6% of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians. These All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances for thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close. For the All-State concert schedule and conductor information, go to the Performances section of www.tmea.org/convention.

One of the many objectives of the Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation is to invest in the future of LCISD students - in part through awarding scholarships to deserving seniors seeking to further their education. LCISD seniors are encouraged to apply for the Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation Scholarship. The Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation Scholarship is open to all Lubbock-Cooper seniors (Lubbock-Cooper High School and New Hope Academy), and the deadline to apply is Wednesday, February 16, 2022. During the application process, seniors will also have the opportunity to be considered for three memorial scholarships: the Hannah Grace Venable Memorial Scholarship, the Craig Staudt Memorial Scholarship, and the Joe Dale Gillispie Memorial Scholarship. These memorial scholarships will be offered based on the following criteria: Hannah Grace Venable Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is open to students planning to pursue a career oriented toward assisting children with special needs. Craig Staudt Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is open to students planning to pursue a career in education or technology. Joe Dale Gillispie Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is open to students planning to pursue a career in agriculture, landscaping, or as a first responder. In addition to completing an application, seniors will need to upload a resume of accomplishments into the form, or email it to lcefapplications@gmail.com. Two letters of recommendation must also be emailed to lcefapplications@gmail.com by individuals advocating for the student. This is a great opportunity for hard working Pirate students to get a head start on funding for college or trade/technical school!
