"My philosophy as an instructional leader has
always focused on the importance of raising
academic standards and providing students
with every opportunity for future success."

Berta Fogerson was named to the position of Assistant Superintendent in 2004.  The programs that fall under Mrs. Fogerson's area of supervision include Curriculum, Staff Development, Instructional Programs, TAKS Assessment, and Summer School Programs.

A 26-year veteran of the education profession, Mrs. Fogerson joined the Lubbock-Cooper administrative staff in 1997 and has held various positions within the district.  She was initially hired as the high school assistant principal, and a year later was promoted to the position of junior high principal.  In 1999 she became principal of the high school and served in this capacity for five years prior to being named to her current position.

Mrs. Fogerson's career in education began in 1981 after graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  She taught 10th and 11th grade English for twelve years, during which time she earned her Master of Eduation Degree.  In 1993, Mrs. Fogerson received her Administrator Certification from Texas Tech, and in 1996 she completed her studies and obtained her Superintendent's Certification.

During her tenure as high school principal, Mrs. Fogerson was instrumental in implementing the High Schools That Work Program and introduced a series of new and challenging academic programs coupled with innovative staff development.  In addition, she collaborated with other district administrators in the development of the Pathways Program, and she initiated the Texas Scholars Program at the high school.

Her contributions to the education profession have not gone without notice, and in 2001 she was named Educator of the Year by the Lubbock Hispanic Association of Women.  In 2004, Mrs. Fogerson was selected as the Region 17 Principal of the Year, and was chosen as one of the top four finalists for State Principal of the Year.  In this same year, she was recognized as a Texas' TRiO Achiever by the Texas Association of Student Special Services Program.

Berta's husband, Jerry, is a Special Education teacher at LCISD, and she has one daughter, Amanda Villalobos, who is a student at Lubock Christian University and a Lubbock-Cooper graduate.

With much encouragement from her family, Mrs. Fogerson looks forward to pursuing new challenges and continuing to evolve as an educator.
