Welcome to the website of Lubbock-Cooper ISD, considered by many people to be the finest school district in West Texas.  These are exciting times within LCISD – construction is proceeding at a furious pace on the new facilities included in the $80 million bond issue approved by district voters in May of 2009.  Several of these projects will be completed during the current school year, and the two largest projects (Laura Bush Middle School and Central Elementary) are scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2011.  These facilities will allow us to accommodate the steady influx of new students that are moving into the district each year.  Over the course of the past 12 years, the student population of Lubbock-Cooper ISD has more than doubled (from 1,831 students in 1998 to 4,034students after the first week of school), making LCISD not only the fastest growing district in West Texas, but also one of the fastest growing districts in the entire state.

This rapid growth is no accident.  Hundreds of new families are moving into LCISD each year because of the tremendous reputation the district has earned over the years for providing its students with outstanding academic programs within a safe and orderly learning environment.  The recently released Texas Education Agency Accountability Ratings provide but one example (but a very good example) of Lubbock-Cooper ISD’s academic excellence.  As a district, LCISD earned the highest possible rating of Exemplary – the largest district in Region 17 (58 districts) to earn that lofty distinction.  Lubbock-Cooper High School also received an Exemplary rating and is the largest high school in Region 17 to earn that highest rating.

Lubbock-Cooper Middle School and West Elementary received the second highest rating of Recognized (West missed the Exemplary mark by a mere one percentage point!).  North Elementary and South Elementary both received Exemplary ratings.  LCISD was the only district in Region 17 to earn an Exemplary rating as a district and also have three of its campuses rated Exemplary.

It has been my great honor and privilege to serve this district for 18 years – three years as principal of Lubbock-Cooper High School and the past 15 years as Superintendent of Schools.  I am very proud to state that I am the father of three LCHS graduates who received an excellent education while attending Lubbock-Cooper schools.  This is a wonderful school district.  You will not find a more dedicated professional staff of administrators, teachers, and support personnel anywhere in Texas.  You will not find a Board of Trustees more committed to meeting the needs of each and every student within their district.  Finally, and most importantly, you will not find a district where the parental and community support is greater than that found within the Lubbock-Cooper ISD.

We hope that the information provided by our district and campus website will prove useful to you.  To educate everyone – it takes everyone.  Together, we will ensure that our children are prepared for the challenging future that awaits them following graduation.  And, within the Lubbock-Cooper ISD, that future is being built one student at a time!
