February 15th, which is scheduled as a snow day on the 2009-2010 calendar, will be the day we use to make-up our school closing on January 29th.  Students will be attending school February 15th.

Staff Development Opportunities

Fall 2009

 

Below is a list of after school technology classes for the fall.  Each class is 1 hour and is open to any staff member.  Classes start at 4:10 p.m. and count as 1 CPE hour.  The class locations are listed at the end of each description. Please sign up by 12:00 Noon on the day of the class to make sure we have handouts for you.  Sign up at the School Objects website (see the LCISD website àStaff Links, or email me and I’ll get you enrolled.

 

If you would like to schedule grade level or individualized technology training during your conference period or after school, please let me know.

Thursday, October 15:     SMARTBoard BrainShare:  Come meet with other teachers using SMARTBoard and learn new tips and share your tips.  North Elementary – LaDon Crump’s lab)

 

Wednesday, Oct. 21:         SMARTBoard –Tips, Tricks and “Brain Share”:  Come by and see some tips and tricks for using your SmartBoard.  Learn more about the gallery, searching for lessons that other teachers have created and share ideas with other teachers about tips you have.  We have a lot of good things to share.  (West Elementary –Denise Cruce’s  Lab)

 

Thursday, October 22:      Flip the Switch - “Turn on” to learning with Microsoft Photo Story 3, a free program for creating multimedia presentations with digital photos. What a great way to put together the photos you’ve been taking.   Bring digital photos and leave with a professional-looking presentation.  This is a great way to create a video of a field trip or your own virtual field trip for the students. (South Elementary –Angie Olivarez’s Lab)

 

Tuesday, October 27:       The New Atomic Learning - Learn how to use Atomic Learning website. You can track CPE hours, learn competency skills and find tutorials on a large variety of topics.  This site allows you have full access to a library of thousands of software tutorials and other educational resources.   The school has subscribed to this service for you and for your students to use at home and school.  There are also technology lesson plans available on this site. Spend time learning to use the site as well.  (High School – Nell Stanford’s Lab – Rm 118)

 

Thursday, October 29:      PowerPoint for Everyone:  (The project created at the end of this class will count toward technology competencies) Come learn to create presentations using PowerPoint.  Put your classroom lessons in PowerPoint and modify them the next year instead of having to start over again.   We’ll go through the basic process of creating it, applying a design template, adding and deleting slides; adding transitions and animations.  We’ll look at PhotoAlbum, an easy way to insert lots of pictures in your presentation.  Bring your materials and start creating a presentation. Tuesday, November 3:      United Streaming Videos –Add some videos to your instruction!  We subscribe to United Streaming!  Come see an overview of how to use United Streaming.  Learn to download the videos instead of watching them online.  We’ll also cover how to insert them into a PowerPoint so that you can have your presentation created and the video embedded and ready to go.  United Streaming has videos covering all grade levels and a large variety of subject areas and many of them have teaching guides and other materials to go with it.  Videos cover Careers, Health, Language Arts, Math, Research, Science, Social Studies, Teaching Practices, Visual and Performing Arts and World Languages.  The videos are also broken down by grade level and many are correlated to the TEKS.  You can even search by your TEKS to see if there are videos available to help teach it.  Videos can be bookmarked or downloaded on the teacher machine or student machines for them to view. (High School – Nell Stanford’s Lab – Rm 118)

 

Wednesday, Nov 4:           Basic Computer Competencies This class will cover the Basic Computer Competencies section of our Computer Competencies.   Those wishing to test out on these competencies and those wanting to learn some computer basics are invited to attend.  Topics covered include, creating/deleting files/folders, printing a file without opening it, exiting a program that is hung, basic troubleshooting, computer terminology, installing/removing software from your computer and a variety of others. Tuesday, November 10:   Computer Competencies Testing Session -   Do you think you are ready to test out of your computer competencies?  If so, come on in for a testing session.  You MUST email me and let me know what section you want to test on so that I can have something ready.  Ex.  Word Processing, PowerPoint, Excel, basics, etc. North Elementary – LaDon Crump’s lab)

 

Wednesday, Nov 11:         Excel Introduction – Come learn the basics of Excel.  It’s easier than you think.  We’ll cover entering data, basic formulas, creating headings and other skills.  This will count towards your Excel Competency. (West Elementary –Denise Cruce’s Lab)

Wednesday, Dec 2:           Tips for Terrific Pictures:  Learn some basic tips and hints for taking pictures using your digital camera.  We’ll look at some basic photo editing software to help crop and work with your photos. We’ll pack as much as we can into 1 hour so you are ready for the holidays.  (West Elementary –Denise Cruce’s  Lab)

 

Thursday, Dec 10:             PowerPoint Games – Jeopardy:   Come learn how to use the Jeopardy template and create a review for your students.  Bring your materials with you and you will have one ready to go when we finish.  If time permits, we’ll look at some other games.   North Elementary – LaDon Crump’s lab)
