Staff Development Opportunities

Spring 2010

 

Below is a list of after school technology classes for the spring.  Each class is 1 hour and is open to any staff member.  Classes start at 4:10 p.m. and count as 1 CPE hour.  Locations are listed at the end of each description. Please sign up by 12:00 Noon on the day of the class to make sure we have handouts for you.  Sign up at the School Objects website (see the LCISD website àStaff Links, or email me and I’ll get you enrolled.

 

If you would like to schedule grade level or individualized technology training during your conference period or after school, please let me know.

If you have any suggestions for topics for other sessions send your suggestions. 

 

Tuesday, March 23:           Computer Competencies Testing Session -   Do you think you are ready to test out of your computer competencies?  If so, come on in for a testing session.  You MUST email me and let me know what section you want to test on so that I can have something ready.  Ex.  Word Processing, PowerPoint, Excel, basics, etc. (Middle School – Open Lab)

 

Thursday, March 25:         SMARTBoard –Tips, Tricks and “Brain Share”:  Come by and see some tips and tricks for using your SmartBoard.  Learn more about the gallery, searching for lessons that other teachers have created and share ideas with other teachers about tips you have.  We have a lot of good things to share.  (South Elementary –Melissa Triplett’s classroom)

 

Tuesday, March 30:           Excel Introduction – Come learn the basics of Excel.  It’s easier than you think.  We’ll cover entering data, basic formulas, creating headings and other skills.  This will count towards your Excel Competency. (Middle School – Open Lab)

Tuesday, April 13:              Gaggle in the Classroom – Learn to use the Gaggle email system with your students.  You can create a digital locker so your students can turn in their files, set up a blog or communicate via email with the students.  (High School – Rm 118, Nell Stanford’s lab)

 

Tuesday, April 20:              SMARTboard  Lesson Activity Toolkit –  There are a lot of interactive activities in the SMARTBoard Lesson Activity Toolkit..  Come learn to use some of the basic activities and preview what’s there.  (North Elementary – LaDon Crumps’s Lab)

 

Tuesday, May 4:                 PowerPoint for Everyone:  (The project created at the end of this class will count toward technology competencies) Create presentations using PowerPoint.  Put your classroom lessons in PowerPoint and modify them the next year instead of having to start over again.   We’ll go through the basic process of creating it, applying a design template, adding and deleting slides; adding transitions and animations.  We’ll look at PhotoAlbum, an easy way to insert lots of pictures in your presentation.  Bring your materials and start creating a presentation. (South Elementary –Angie Olivarez’s Lab)

 

Thursday, May 6:               Flip the Switch - “Turn on” to learning with Microsoft Photo Story 3, a free program for creating multimedia presentations with digital photos. What a great way to put together the photos you’ve been taking.   Bring digital photos and leave with a professional-looking presentation.  This is a great way to create a video of a field trip or your own virtual field trip for the students. (West Elementary –Denice Cruce’s  Lab)

 

Thursday, May 13:             Animoto – Looking for a different way to share your pictures and videos online.  This is the website you are looking for.  Teachers can sign up for an educational account that will allow your students to create their own projects for class. !  (North Elementary  - LaDon Crump’s lab). 

 

Tuesday, May 18:               It’s time for Spring Cleaning:  It’s that time of the year to sweep into action and organize those files!  General computer housekeeping tips and strategies will be the topics of discussion.  Leave for the summer with all of your computer files neat and orderly and BACKED UP!  (Middle School – Open Lab)
